There are comebacks, and then there is what happened last night. Three goals down at half-time in the final, the underdogs walked back out and produced 45 minutes that will be replayed for decades.

The catalyst was a 19-year-old substitute, on the pitch for his first senior final, who scored a perfect hat-trick — right foot, left foot, header — inside half an hour.

The moment

With the clock showing 90+4 and penalties looming, a looping cross found the captain at the far post. The finish was scuffed, ugly and absolutely decisive: 4-3, and the club's first major title in its 97-year history.

Supporters poured into the streets within minutes. The city has already announced a victory parade for Sunday.

“At half-time we said: lose by six or win by one. There was nothing in between,” the captain said.
